The Straws is made up of Ollie (Vocals & guitar), Chump (bass) and Reno (Drums & backing vocals). The band was born in 2005 in Arlon, a town of Southern Belgium.
The Straws is the Power rock band par excellence. By displaying clearly its English influences, the amazing trio is successfully sailing through its refined melodies and a relentless bass-drum block. The firmness and consistency of its rhythmic section bring the energy and strength to transcend songs built around catchy choruses. In March 2006, after several months’ worth of work the three members release their first demo called ‘Up the pole’. In August that year the trio caught the attention of a young sound engineer who offered to record a more official demo for them. The band won’t let the opportunity go by and wraps up a few tunes at Studio GAM in Waimes in January 2007. A few months later our musicians decide to lock themselves up in ‘L’air ne fait pas la chanson’ a recording studio in Liège, in order to record ‘Tales of an everyday life’, their first, totally auto-produced first album with Roger Roland and Jean-François Hertsens behind the mixer. Today the band hopes this very Power-Pop-Rock oriented record will open some doors and allow the trio to perform on larger stages where they feel more comfortable and can deploy all their power. As a matter of fact the band was one of the highlights of the « 20ème Nuits de l’Entrepôt ».
The three musicians, all with completely different influences, are not done suprising us. The diversity of their songs, nonetheless connected by a subtle thread, and their unique sound make one foresee an inexhaustible potential.
Now signed on Rox Records / Moonzoo Music, the band is recording an album under the artistic production of Mario Guccio and Roland De Greef (Machiavel). The vocals recording is still to be done and the album should be available at the end of summer. It will be distributed by Universal Belgium.
